More than a thousand people attended the #DefendAfrin rally in London on Sunday 18th Feb.
After the US announced the Turkey/Syria Border Security Force last month, Turkey began attacking the Afrin enclave, part of the Rojava area where Kurds have defended themselves from Isis and set up an autonomous anarchist state where equality, civil engagement, and democracy are manifest in every level of organisation.
There were speeches from union leaders, solidarity groups, and from MP Bambos Charalambous which highlighted the human rights violations of the Turkish state, called for the release of the political prisoner Ocalan, and called out the hypocrisy of the US/UK support for Turkey as they bomb and shell Afrin killing many civilians including women and children, and are reported to have used gas.
