On 9th Feb 2019 hundreds of people took over the busy Kingsland High Street in Hackney to create a traffic-free space for a few hours and engage with local people about climate change and the 6th mass extinction. There were speakers from a wide range of movements as well as rappers, poets, musicians, and artists.
Vegan food was served and hundreds of leaflets handed out, publicising the work of Extinction Rebellion, their big plans for nationwide civil disobedience in April, and school student actions such as the #schoolstrike on Friday.
