Interview with Rembrandt Koppelaar (XRZeroWaste) about new technological alternatives to building new waste incinerator plants.

Despite a sustained campaign of protests, in December the North London Waste Authority awarded a contract to controversial Spanish corporation Acciona to rebuild the Edmonton Incinerator.

The Acciona CEO was caught on video describing the project as “massively oversized”.

The rebuild was first raised several years ago, but campaigners like Rembrandt point to new technology and to European guidelines and regulations, and claim that alternatives have now become available to massively increase the role of recycling and biomass gas production, instead of creating more air pollution and carbon emissions by burning waste.

The campaign continues with direct action, community outreach, and legal challenges.
