“Grenfell crystallised so many of the issues that are wrong in our society and in our economy. We have this place which is in the wealthiest part of the world, with people living in conditions that are not habitable, not safe, as a result of huge deregulation which they’ve suffered from, meanwhile the people across the road, who are the ones who have benefited from this system, who are living  in multi-million pound properties and often make more money from owning them – often not living in them and not doing anything with them. So I think this really crystallised the issue clearly and I think it had a catalysing effect in people’s minds.”

In the second part of our interview with Economics Editor Laurie Macfarlane we discuss property rights, state intervention, deregulation, Grenfell and the influence of secretive think tanks on public debate and policy.
