It’s two years since we first visited the Wards Corner Market in Tottenham.

The community-led campaign continues to fight off the demolition “regeneration” plans with a legal challenge to the Compulsory Purchase Order due to begin in October.

The Save Latin Village and Wards Corner campaign have created a Wards Corner Community Plan which has been submitted for planning permission.

This week, market traders and members of the design team invite local community groups to preview the Community Plan ahead of its public launch. The presentation takes place at the City of Praise Hall at 312 High Road N15 4BN at 7pm on Thurs 1st August, with realistic proposals to renovate the old department store and place it under democratic community control.

The plan will expand the market to create new community spaces and employment opportunities – all while keeping the rent as affordable as it is today for existing and future tenants.

Although the Haringey Development Vehicle was seen off by sustained community campaigning over the past couple of years, the area is still under constant threat of gentrification and privatisation, and all local groups and residents are invited to the meting to forge alliances and work together to protect the community.
