In 2023 at the Coronation of King Charles, the CEO of Republic, Graham Smith, was arrested along with other protesters and even journalists. He was prevented from exercising his right to Freedom of Assembly and Freedom of Expression. All charges were later dropped and the police are being sued. It was an example of the absolute power of monarchy and a reminder that we are all subjects rather than citizens (unlike every other remaining monarchy in Europe).
The following year, Republic organised a Republic Day event, which debuted their 15-foot high puppet dinosaur, who goes by the name ‘Chuck The Rex’.
This year, they set up stage once more in Trafalgar Square and presented an impressive array of speakers and musicians to celebrate our future republic and the end of the monarchy in this country.
