On Wednesday, the area around Parliament was a sea of red, as thousands turned up wearing clothes the colour of blood, to tell the government that the starving of children must surely be an uncrossable red line for Israel.
Huge photogenic banners across Westminster Bridge, photographed from a drone (in an area where permission to fly is rare), were expected to feature in the media.
Hundreds of metres of red cloth were unfurled across the front and sides of Parliament.
And when Starmer rose to take his weekly grilling in the House, many MPs put on large red badges with the slogan ‘Stop Arming Israel’, and then staged a walk out.
But did you see any coverage in state or corporate media?
We were hard-pressed to find any mention.
Maybe the powerful demand to stop arming Israel and recognise the state of Palestine was a red line for the media stenographers.
The event coincided with Jeremy Corbyn’s call for an independent inquiry into Britain’s military, economic and military cooperation with Israel since October 2023, which he managed to introduce as a bill under the 10-minute rule. The bill is supported by 42 MPs currently.
