October 15th was just a week after Prime Minister Johnson labelled Extinction Rebellion protesters ‘uncooperative crusties’ and a day after the Metropolitan Police issued a Section 14 order making all XR assemblies in the capital unlawful and liable to arrest.

But several hundred uncooperative grandparents gathered outside Buckingham Palace to launch ‘XR Grandparents’ and sing “We’d rather be a crustie than extinct.”

The threatened mass arrests were not forthcoming as the only ones arrested at the ‘unlawful assembly’ were two protesters who tried to lock themselves on to the Palace gates, supported by a large crowd of grandparents and their grandchildren.
