The Amazon is raging with tens of thousands of fires this year, a massive escalation over previous years. On September 5th activists around the world held a Day of Action, and as part of it, in London, a protest was held at the offices of global investment firm Blackrock, which is complicit in financing deforestation and profiting from the destruction of the Amazon.

The London protest was supported by many groups including Extinction Rebellion, and in this first of a series of short films, we hear an impassioned speech from a Bolivian woman, Ximena, who has heard that her home in the Amazon has recently burned down.

She is calling for a declaration of national disaster, proper coverage of the devastation by the world’s media, international aid to end the fires, and a halt to finance for the exploitation of the Amazon from companies like Blackrock.
