Emerging from a crowd of commuters and football fans, the group gave an attention-grabbing rendition of ‘Bread and Roses’ against a backdrop of anti-Tory banners.

“They’re not welcome here”, said Sue McCormick, one of the organisers of the flash mob, continuing: “It’s outrageous cheek to choose to come to Manchester. It just shows their arrogance.”

09.13 – A little report in from a friend

So a lot of the folks coming up to Manchester tomorrow to protest outside the Tory Party Conference have had their accommodation cancelled without warning and not given a reason as to why.

They were planning on staying in the Sugden Centre near the university.

The Sugden Centre is managed by a company called “Serco”.

Serco recently appointed a chap called Sir Roy Gardner as their Chairman.

Sir Roy Gardner is listed by the Electoral Commission as having donated £10,000 to the Tories back in April.

“NO REASON WAS GIVEN AS TO WHY THEIR ACCOMMODATION WAS CANCELLED”

09.00 PRESS RELEASE FROM PEOPLE’S ASSEMBLY ABOUT ACCOMODATION

SugdenProtesters arriving in Manchester today have had their accommodation cancelled with no warning. Last night at 11pm Sugden Centre informed the People’s Assembly that space would not be made available for protesters.

The People’s Assembly, organisers of a week of events, booked a sports hall, the University’s Sugden Sports Centre, to accommodate supporters to stay for the week – this was agreed with the company months in advance. The People’s Assembly contacted the sports centre last night (to arrange parking), less than 24 hours before our people were due to arrive, and were informed the booking had been cancelled due to ‘Security Risks’. The Sugden didn’t even bother to contact the organisers about the decision.  CLICK HERE TO READ MORE
