The Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament will hold a protest outside the US Embassy tonight to demand an end to Donald Trump’s nuclear war drive.

Kate Hudson, CND general secretary, said:

“This is a very dangerous global situation. Donald Trump said the North Korea issue ‘will be taken care of’ and has sent an aircraft carrier-led strike group to the Korean Peninsula as an indication of his intentions.

“This comes after an escalation of aggressive military force in Syria and Afghanistan, with an increase in civilian casualties and a complete disregard for international law.

“It hasn’t quite sunk in for many of us just how close to nuclear war we might be, but civil society is mobilising to demand a de-escalation of this crisis because the consequences of a war don’t bear thinking about.

“It’s absolutely critical that the British government distances itself from Donald Trump’s nuclear ambitions.”

Campaigners from Stop the War added that:

“Donald Trump is taking the world to the edge of war. His belligerent statements and provocative actions have created a frightening stand-off with nuclear-armed North Korea.

“This, combined with missile attacks on Syria and the mega-bomb drop on Afghanistan, signals a sharp turn to intervention which is ratcheting up tension around the world.”

The protest will be held tonight, from 5:30 pm outside the US embassy in Grosvenor Square, W1A 2LQ.
