Fair Fares Protest – 3rd January 2017

1392

‘We did some analysis of how much train tickets cost per minute of the journey you’re on. It’s equivalent to a premium rate phone call.’

Campaign for Better Transport organised this musical protest at King’s Cross Station London at 8am on the first day back to work for many commuters in London.

The yearly fare rise has just taken effect with an average increase of 2.3%. The journey from Stevenage now works out at 27 pence per minute, similar to the cost of a premium phone line.

With growing numbers of precarious part-time workers unable to buy season tickets and facing premium fares, campaigners are calling for a cap on rises, and fairer ticketing for all.
